INDUS Technology, Inc. was recently
awarded a subcontract by Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space,
Sunnyvale, CA to provide engineering assistance to their recently
awarded contract from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command
(SPAWAR), San Diego, CA. This contract is to perform a concept
study for the Navy's next generation communication satellite system.
Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space was one of four companies to receive the
Navy's competitive awards that will run through April 2000.
Under this contract, the Missiles & Space
Team will perform a concept study for the Advanced Narrowband System
(ANS) / Mobile User Objective System (MUOS). MUOS is a government
owned or controlled communication system composed of spacecraft,
spacecraft control and network control elements. ANS, an overarching
communications "system of systems," will consist of MUOS,
commercial mobile subscriber services and possibly an airborne
communications node.
"We are extremely proud to have been selected to provide technical assistance
to this eminent team of communications experts," said Dr. Kathleen Sridhar,
INDUS Technology President and CEO. "INDUS will participate with other teammates
Motorola, Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications, Rockwell Collins, and Nichols
Research. The team will apply its strong military and commercial communications
satellite, services and terminal expertise to provide a low cost, mission effective
system to the users."
The Navy's current UHF communications
satellite constellation provides narrowband tactical satellite
communications for Defense Department mobile users. As the next-generation
narrowband satellite constellation, ANS/MUOS will initially supplement,
and ultimately replace, the current UFO constellation over the
next two decades. The principal objectives of MUOS are to provide
warfighters with assured access to communications, netted and point-to
point communications, worldwide coverage, joint interoperability,
and communications on the move.
INDUS Technology, Inc. is a San Diego
based, small, woman-owned business recently certified by the US
Small Business Administration as an SDB (Small Disadvantaged Business)
and a participant in the 8(a) Program. INDUS is a provider of Communications,
ASW, Weapons Systems development and Modeling and Simulation services
to the military. |
